How do Groups work?

Groups are places of intentional community that meet in homes around the county to study scripture, discuss life, and grow in faith together.

Lead a Group

  • If you have been a Christian for a while and call Rockharbor your church home, we’d love to talk to you about leading a group.

    • Leading a group starts with a discernment conversation with our Groups Pastor, Erin Stratton. Reach out here to express interest and schedule a meeting!

    • From there, if it is mutually decided that group leadership is the right next step for you, you will attend leader training, complete safety checks, and begin to plan your group’s logistics alongside our team.

    • Once you launch your group, we're with you every step of the way for ongoing support and care!

  • Leaders of table groups are committed Christians and Rockharbor community members who have chosen to give their time and talents to hosting a group and guiding conversation. They are not necessarily credentialed theologians, teachers, speakers, extroverts, or any other expectation you might have. Leaders are Live Scanned and sign our leadership guidelines (can be provided to non-leaders upon request), and commit to the following:

    • Consistent communication with the Groups Pastor and other team members

    • Attend training at least yearly

    • Yearly check-in with the Groups Pastor

    • Personal spiritual practices and self-care

Groups are places of intentional community that meet in homes around the county to study scripture, discuss life, and grow in faith together.

  • Leader recruitment

    • A strong group always starts with its leaders! New leaders are interviewed and trained twice a year. Ongoing training and support are offered year-round.

    Group Launch Sunday

    • Twice a year our church patio is transformed into a group fair where participants can meet leaders and sign up for a group. We always do this in-person, because face-to-face connection is so important for community discipleship!

    Start Meeting

    • Following group launch Sunday, new groups start meeting in homes all around the county. Some groups choose to meet for a semester or a year, others choose to keep meeting indefinitely. It’s up to the group and its leaders to decide what works best for them.

    • Most group meetings start with a social time, sometimes over a meal or snack.

    • After catching up, groups transition into sermon discussion and Bible study.

    • Most of our groups choose to meet up for fun social events outside of their regular meetings, as well!

  • At Rockharbor, we have two group launches each year (one in the spring, and one in the fall).

    We care deeply about the health and development of our leaders, and launching groups twice a year allows us to really get to know every leader and host effective trainings that equip them for the work ahead. Additionally, having twice-a-year in-person launch events fosters connection and commitment much better than ongoing digital sign-ups.

  • There are occasionally opportunities to sign up after launch Sunday, but most often you will need to wait for the next launch to join a group. Keep in mind that groups are one great way to get involved at RH, but not the only way! We also offer courses, service opportunities, retreats, social events, and so much more.
