Child Dedications

What Is Child Dedication And Why Is It Important?

Child Dedication is a public sign that parents are seeking to bring their children up in the ways of Christ, set them apart, and present them to God. By dedicating a child, a parent vows to do all he or she can to set apart the child until the child can make a choice to follow Jesus.

What If I Don’t Have Kids?

The faith community plays a supportive role in this process as well by standing with parents to support, encourage, and help in the process.

What Do Child Dedications Look Like At RH?

In the ongoing effort to be family to each other, family ministries held ROCKHARBOR’s first Child Dedication Service on June 19, 2010. During the service we created intentional space for grandparents, aunts and uncles, relatives, neighbors, and Life Groups to join together for this important step in a family’s journey. In all, 12 families committed 13 kids to God while more than 160 people joined in the celebration!

Throughout their time together, families shared stories with one another, read scripture over their kids, blessed them, and dedicated them to god. The families were completely surrounded by their immediate community, individuals whom they share life with and will be able to walk with as they raise their children.

One family in particular had 4 generations present during the dedications. Fathers prayed for their sons as they dedicated them. Entire Life Groups supported first-time parents and celebrated with them. And new relationships started between families who dedicated their kids as they had time to get to know one another.

This time truly captured the weight and became a spiritual milestone in the lives of these families.
