The Caf at our Central Campus is about 2 things: tremendously great coffee and a place to find community. We strive to be a place where the people of ROCKHARBOR can connect with one another and enjoy a tasty drink served by our trained baristas. We proudly serve Kéan coffee, roasted right here in Newport Beach the same week you drink it, and other quality-focused ingredients. The Caf staff is comprised of volunteers who not only love coffee, but love people too!
There’s a couple of different ways that you can get involved.
First, is to be our guest. We hope that you’ll enjoy the products that we serve, and the opportunity to meet with friends and/or future friends.
Second, if you’d be interested in becoming part of the weekend and/or midweek Caf teams, you can sign up here for our interest group.
Each Caf staff member has a part to play, and if each does their piece effectively, our Caf will run efficiently and we’ll be able to give great service and drinks to our guests. The following is the breakdown of the positions at the Caf.
Cashier
This cashier is responsible for taking drink orders, payments and passing off the drink order to the barista’s assistant.
Barista Assistant
The Barista Assistant is responsible for taking the drink order from the cashier and prepping it for the barista. This may mean getting the proper sized cup, pumping in the sauces or syrups needed, adding any other modifiers, adding milk and then handing it off for espresso and blending.
Barista
The barista pulls shots and adds them to the drink in the final step of beverage creation. They also ensure the accuracy and quality of the drink though sight and smell and then call out the order and customer name and place it on the counter with the receipt for pick-up.
Brewer
The brewer’s responsibility is to keep brewed coffee available on the self-serve patio and the children’s lobby. They’re always in a cycle of grinding, brewing and delivering coffee, but wow does it smell great!
Lobby & Patio Host
The lobby and patio host ensures that these areas are clean and well-stocked, and that people are greeted as they come and go and that they feel connected.
