Mark
Mark
06.05.2011 → 09.04.2011
Now What?
After the Resurrection, the disciples anticipate the end of God’s story but instead are refocused outward as witnesses.
Jesus Christ, The Son of God
Mark’s gospel culminates with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection as we find the answer to Mark’s guiding question as to who Jesus is: the Son of God
Every Passing Hour
With the cross in view, Jesus models suffering through prayer, anguish, and communion with God.
Bare Naked Temple
Like a fig tree that has the appearance of fruit but does not bear any, we see Jesus march into the temple and respond to His people whose lives don’t match their appearance of holiness.
Eye of the Needle
From two different accounts in Mark, we learn that God wants His people satisfied by and in pursuit of Him.
The Man And the Message
As followers of Jesus, we cannot pick and choose what parts of Jesus’ teaching we want to embrace…He is His message and so we must hold onto all of it.
You Don’t Know What You’re Asking
Jesus foreshadows his death and, in doing so, shows how the cross will give His followers a new way of looking at themselves and the world.
The Heart of the Issue
When Jesus encounters at a point in His ministry, He is able to, in a few short sentences, shows the flaw in their whole religious system.
Bread and Water
How many times have we experience the Son of God in close proximity and not even realized it?
Jesus Heals
We affirm that God still can and does heal today, and when we cry out to Him for that healing, we show our faith in a God who still shows His compassion on His children by reaching out to them in a similar way.
Ears To Hear
Are our hearts the type of hearts that can receive God’s Word and allow it to grow?
The Baptism of Jesus
Christ comes so that we can be named Son or Daughter, not because we earned any sort of titles, but because we cannot earn them.
The Authority of Christ
As we see in Mark, the same power that Christ has over everything on the Earth, he passes along to us, His ambassadors, through His Holy Spirit.
Who Do You Say That I Am?
Mark begins his biography of Jesus’ life by telling us that God is up to something new in the world.
