The Trinity

The one true living God of the Bible reveals himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We first acknowledge that God is simply greater than any of our ideas, concepts, theology or language about him. The one attribute ascribed to him above all others is that of his Holiness (that He is wholly other and not just a bigger and better version of ourselves). He is majestic, awesome, vast and eternal.  His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways are higher than our ways.

This means that all that we know about God comes from his revelation about himself. We only know him as he discloses himself to us. Our proper response to this revelation isn’t to speculate about his nature, but rather to bow down in worship. Augustine defines Christianity as faith working toward understanding. He writes, “I believe in order to understand.”

Central and unique to the Christian faith is the belief that the one God has disclosed himself eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is plurality within the identity of the one God. The Word of God and the Spirit of God are a part of who God is, and share in the creating and ruling of the world.
