Mission

God’s Church does not exist for itself. We have been created, reconciled, and purposed for something beyond us. Together, we must embrace the call God has given us as witnesses to and partners in His mission to redeem the world. Here at ROCKHARBOR, we are not content with making this life about us. We are not content with turning blind eyes or deaf ears to the tangible needs that mark the cities we live in. We are not content with our families, friends, co-workers, and neighbors not knowing the love that Jesus has for them.

We believe that to follow Jesus means to live for the sake of the world. Living out the Gospel always involves faith that is in motion. It’s communities that have experienced Jesus’ love and are now compelled by it back into the very neighborhoods they’ve been placed.

Mission Initiatives

Stepping into mission is not a new concept for our communities. As long as we’ve been around, people in our church have modeled what it means to live for the sake of others. From Serve Day to the GO Campaign to Missional Communities and everywhere in-between, this posture of mission and giving ourselves away has made its way into our DNA. And we affirm and bless the different ways this is being lived out across our county. If you are not invested in any existing opportunities, here are some primary ways mission is playing out through ROCKHARBOR:

Global Outposts
Through mission trips, monthly prayer gatherings, support for our ministry partners, and more, we will continue to invest in our 4 global outposts to play an ongoing part in how God is moving there:

Uganda
South Africa
India
Mexico

Schools Initiative
While we celebrate the ways God is allowing us to partner with Him across the globe, it has made us consider where and how mission is corporately, tangibly, and regularly being lived out here locally. In 2011, we began to ask the question, If ROCKHARBOR were to disappear tomorrow, would we be missed more overseas than we would in our own cities and neighborhoods? And what do we do about that?

Starting in 2011, ROCKHARBOR is beginning to seek God regarding where and how to invest in local schools in Orange County. Much more than a ministry initiative that will mark one year, this area of schools is a place we are committed to for the long haul. Years down the road, we hope to be celebrating the ways that God has worked in and through these new partnerships.
