The issue of divorce is one of tremendous theological, practical, and pastoral importance. We recognize the vast disagreement on this issue within the church. We also understand it as our duty to diligently determine what God would have us do, as a local expression of His Body, to be faithful to His Word.
The ease of divorce, as well as the range of Christian teaching on the subject, makes this one of the most pressing pastoral issues of the day. Regardless of current cultural practice, it must be handled with both a firm commitment to the Scriptures’ teaching and a deep resolve to embody the truth, grace, and compassion of Jesus. We seek to be biblically sound and culturally aware.
