Church Plants
At ROCKHARBOR, we believe God’s plan to reach the world with His love is through us, His people. As His Church, we believe one of the best ways to advance the Gospel is by raising up, empowering, and sending out new church plants. We believe this because we’ve lived it.
In 1997, a small team from Mariners Church stood in front of its congregation and was commissioned to the city of Costa Mesa as a church plant. Years later, that team, joined by the thousands more that make up ROCKHARBOR, are now the ones called to raise up, resource, journey alongside, and ultimately commission and release new churches.
As part of the 2+1 strategy that we embraced from Fall 2009 – Fall 2011, ROCKHARBOR helped plant three new churches in Southern California.
So, What Is A Church Plant?
A ROCKHARBOR church plant is an increasingly autonomous community that has received the blessing and affirmation of RH leadership. Church plants are unique to their specific contexts and have their own elder board and leadership teams. How much a church plant shares the vision and values of RH is completely up to them.
Our Church Plants:
The Garden | Long Beach
In 2008, a group of young leaders began a gathering called The Long Beach Project, to pray for and invest in the Long Beach community. As God revealed to them His heart for this city, He also made clear His vision for this group to plant a church there. After several months, The Garden officially launched in the Fall of 2009 in downtown Long Beach.

Basileia | Hollywood
Under the leadership of David Ruis and alongside leaders like Don Williams, ROCKHARBOR partnered with a few other churches to bring a new expression of church to the community of Hollywood. This community officially launched in Spring 2010.

Redemption Church | Costa Mesa
In 2011, God crossed ROCKHARBOR’s path with that of Redemption Church. As Redemption considered a move from Laguna Beach to Costa Mesa, their community began gathering in our building and meeting with our staff and leaders. Along that journey, a church called Soul Survivor merged into them, and now they are dreaming about new ways to live out the Gospel together in Costa Mesa.. Redemption Church was officially re-planted in Fall 2011.
