RH In Motion
If you've been around ROCKHARBOR for any time at all, you know that we are a community that is always in motion. Always seeking to find where God is moving, and responding with humble and willing hearts to follow Him. Here we find stories of what God is doing in us and through us. Here we are encouraged to keep following Him. Here we are called to step into the journey.

A Children’s Ministry Story
Contributed by Adam Rogers, Content Associate
And yes it is children’s ministry and so much more than child care. That’s the one thing that everyone who watches over and pours into our kids on the weekends would like everyone to know. On the weekends our community’s children are being raised up to know Jesus, taught how to follow and love our God, they are not merely being taken care of physically. Until they get turned away.
You see, we are short of volunteers, and because of rules that require a certain amount of adults per number of children, sometimes, families are turned away. Which may not seem like the end of the world to someone standing on the outside of children’s ministry, but it means the world to both parents and the volunteers who currently serve. The reality is most people discount the fact that many of us made decisions to follow Christ in our early years. These are the years that our children’s curriculum is designed for.
Here’s the thing, when a family is turned away significant things change. Many parents (especially new visitors) will just turn around and leave, and for many of those new people, they don’t come back. Parent’s feel that family isn’t valued in the church community, and to be honest, that is a major priority for many families when seeking a home church. The most significant problem when a family is turned away, is that not only may the parents miss church, but the children do. Every weekend, children’s ministry IS church for our kids.
The faith community at ROCKHARBOR plays a major role in raising up our families. Parents need to feel supported; we call our parents to be the leaders when it comes to bringing our children up knowing the gospel. It’s nearly impossible to do so, if parents can’t be in church on Sunday. How can they lead and teach, if they themselves haven’t been taught?
I encourage everyone to help lift up our families, serve along side them. Children’s ministry is about much more than holding a baby; it’s about praying over that child, praying for their family, and teaching the next generation of Christian’s to love God with all of their hearts.
